Anderson shares his secrets from his long study of the old masters and the impressionists to help you reach a new level in painting still life and flowers. Demonstrations and personal critiques will be used emphasizing color, brushwork and design. You will receive instruction in impasto techniques and dynamic alla prima brushwork so that your paintings have a look of spontaneity. You will also learn to capture "the big look," the broad masses of light and dark that express the shapes you are seeing. He will help you to learn to paint more intuitively - to become immersed in the challenge of color, and in finding just the right note to make your still life and flowers come alive.

Painting Portraits in Oil

Through demonstrations and personal critiques, Anderson will help you energize your oil portraits with a classic, rock-solid approach to color, brushwork and design. Working from portrait models, you will be immersed in the challenge of color observation and color mixing - in finding just the right note to make what you are seeing come alive. Emphasis is also placed on paint handling and the use of impasto techniques - applying thick touches of paint to create depth of field. You will also learn to capture "the big look," the broad masses of light and dark that express the shapes you are seeing. Anderson helps you to analyze those shapes in terms of gesture, expression and anatomy, learning to recognize the qualities that so subtly express what is essential to the human form.
